Charitable status to further the aims of the Common Mission Project

The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) has recognised the Common Mission Project as a charity in Australia for the purposes of advancing education and advancing the security and safety of Australia and the Australian Public. This milestone is an  independent endorsement of our mission to create an international network of entrepreneurs driven to solve the critical issues of our time,  and follows similar recognition of the Common Mission Project in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The ACNC does not award charitable status lightly, with only around 2,000 charities registered annually in Australia. We take this very seriously. The endorsement provides a guarantee to all of our participants, partners, volunteers, and sponsors that we are serious about delivering on our promise to solve critical issues.

Common Mission Project is committed to leading the next age of entrepreneurship, harnessing exceptional minds to solve real-world challenges  - we call this “mission-driven entrepreneurship”. We have a long-term view on this and are taking actions to deliver a generational shift on how we approach and solve critical challenges in this country and internationally. This includes creating academic programs, such as the flagship “Hacking for National Security“ currently under way at the University of New South Wales, that teach students how to use modern entrepreneurial tools and processes to quickly solve real-world problems.

For us, charitable status is more than a badge or label. It brings with it a helpful level of public accountability and governance - requirements that help make it crystal clear to the Australian Public, sponsors, donors, and benefactors what we do and how we do it. It also ensures longevity to our purpose and focus for our operations. For instance, under the Charities Act we are obliged to keep our charitable purpose the focus of our business – we are committed for the long haul. This is a great assurance to those who wish to work with us now and into the future. Our effort and our revenue will be laser-focused on delivering impact.

Over the coming months we will continue to expand what CMP does here in Australia, consistent with our constitution.  Among other things, we look forward to expanding Hacking for National Security  to other universities and diversifying the types of problems we can feed into the program in the next 12 months. We are also building a collaborative network of like-minded individuals and organisations. Join with us in our common mission to solve real-world problems.
